There always seems to be a lot of interest in and questions asked me about growing Fiddle Leaf Ficus as a houseplant. Along with questions, there is also a lot of confusion as to exactly what sort of houseplant the Fiddle Leaf actually is.

The Excellent SorghumThe Excellent Sorghum
By dave, April 25, 2016

Sorghum is in the grass family and is closely related to corn. In fact, when it's young it is nearly impossible to differentiate it from corn. If anyone ever tells you they have volunteer corn in their garden, you can sound smart by guessing that it's sorghum.

By Cyclaminist on May 2, 2016 2:14 AM, concerning plant: Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)

Unlike most spring ephemerals, bloodroot doesn't necessarily lose its leaves right after the seed ripens. It can keep its leaves pretty far into summer if the roots don't dry out. The longer the leaves collect sun and create food, the more flowers and offsets the plants will produce the next year. So I found out last year when I carefully watered my bloodroot whenever it started to wilt, though I don't remember exactly how long the leaves lasted. At least into July. My clump really needs to be divided now, since the leaves are overlapping.

By Marilyn on May 2, 2016 12:03 AM, concerning plant: White Pitcher Sage (Salvia azurea 'September Snow')

Salvia azurea 'September Snow' is a taller salvia. If you want a shorter plant and with a lot more flowers blooming in the fall, cut back the plant in July.

Very cute little plant. Shorter and smaller-leaved than the more commonly grown European subspecies, and seems to branch more often.

One of my first cultivars to bloom this year. It is currently sending up more scapes; the first set of scapes are about halfway through blooming.
