My 300 year old willow oak is shedding multitudes of its narrow leaves. Can I use these to mulch existing beds? I thought that maybe the oak leaves would benefit my acid-loving shrubs. And I should wait til the ground freezes before adding a layer of pine bark mulch?

Oak leaves are on the acidic side and can be used near acid-loving shrubs. I'd shred or chop the leaves before using them as they tend to mat down if left whole. You can apply mulch now, before the soil freezes. Good luck with your project!
