This is the first year my lemon trees have fruit on them. How do you tell when they are ready to pick? Thanks Rod

I wish there were an easy answer! A taste test is really the only way to know for sure. Lemons ripen over a long period of time and they can stay on the tree for months so there's really no rush in harvesting them. Color is not really an indication which makes knowing when they're ripe it a bit tricky. Begin by looking for full sized fruit that is no longer rock hard and then go by taste. You may have to do some trial and error from year to year until you have a better idea of when to expect each tree's fruit to begin to be ripe. Enjoy!
