Can I leave the vine lilac in the original container pot or does it have to be planed in the ground? Can it be in direct sunlight most of the day? Is it a strong hearty plant that does not need a lot of attention?

Your vine lilac (Hardenbergia violacea) is extremely hardy to both hot and cold temperatures. It can remain in a pot or can be planted in the ground. It thrives in full sunshine and doesn't need any attention at all. I prune mine back when it has finished flowering because mine is well established in the garden and would outgrow it's spot if I didn't. But, no deadheading is required by the plant. you've made a wise choice - it's beautiful when in bloom!
