When is the best time to prevent weeds with a pre-emergence herbicide?

Rather than a selecting a specific date for pre emergent herbicide application, watch the weather - Crabgrass and other summer weed seeds start germinating when soil temperatures are 50 to 55 degrees F for ten or more days. Apply just prior to that and your pre emergent should be effective in keeping those weed seeds from germinating.
