Like all melons, cantaloupes need all day sunshine and ample water. You can feed with a general purpose 5-10-10 fertilizer or you can spread a 2 inch layer of compost over the top of the soil. Compost will release nutrients as it decomposes and this layer of mulch will also help slow evaporation and helps suppress weeds. Spread the compost on the soil surface between your plants after transplanting your seedlings or if you sow your seeds directly in the ground, after the seedlings have developed 2 sets of leaves. Best wishes with your cantaloupes!
