I have a large palm that is in the house for the winter. It has developed a bad case of scale. Since it is inside & on a carpeted area I don't want to use insectcides. How do I get rid of them. The plant is loaded with them.

You can dab each scale with a Q-Tip dipped in rubbing alcohol or you can peel each scale off the plant with your fingernails or tweezers. Or, you can wait until springtime to take your palm outdoors and spray with insecticidal soap. Any of these methods will eliminate - or at least reduce - the scale population.
