Spring-flowering bulbs require a prolonged winter chill before they'll grow roots and foliage. Putting them in the refrigerator will accomplish this. When the leaves of your paperwhites have died down you can remove them from the plant and dig the bulbs. Store them in a cool, dark location until next September. Then place them in the refrigerator for 12 weeks. Plant them in pots after the chilling period and water them. They will begin to grow and will bloom for you next winter.

Amaryllis will rebloom after it experiences a rest period. When the flowers fade, prune away the flowering stalk but allow the leaves to grow. Place the plant in a bright spot indoors and then take it outdoors during the summer months. At the end of the summer the leaves will die back. Remove the leaves and place the plant in a cool location indoors. It will rest for a few months. When you see it beginning to sprout you can water it and set it in a bright location. It should flower right on time for you. Enjoy!
