I have a Crepe Myrtle near my front door that's about 3 years old. My friend says I should cut it back right now. Is there anything special I should know about pruning this tree? It's really pretty, but was beginning to get unmanagable last year.

Your friend is right - prune your crepe myrtle back now. Crepe myrtles flower on the new growth of the season so early spring pruning is best - it will promote lots of new growth and lots of flowers. You can prune it back again after it has finished flowering and the new growth should develop flowers later in the season. Enjoy!
