My front lawn is mostly weeds and bermuda grass. How can I get rid of the weeds while helping the grass to grow? I was told weed killers will kill off the bermuda. If there is a solution, please advise when to apply and when it will be safe to aerate and reseed. Thank you.

There are actually a number of weed killers safe for bermuda lawns. They include Ortho Weed-B-Gon Weed Killer For Lawns, Southern Ag Lawn Weed Killer with Trimec, Ace Spot Weed Killer, Ortho Basic Solutions Lawn Weed Killer, and Bayer Advanced Southern Weed Killer for Lawns. Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed and Feed is also safe for Bermuda. Since some of these products contain residual pre emergents (read the label to see if there is a waiting period before it's safe to overseed). If there is no caution you can wait a week to 10 days after applying the weed control product prior to aerating and overseeding. This waiting period will give the product time to work and you can rake or pull out the dead weeds before you aerate. Now's the time to tackle those weeds so you can overseed in late March or early April. Be sure to put your lawn on a regular watering, mowing and feeding schedule so it will grow thick enough to crowd out any future weeds. Best wishes with your lawn.
