I purchased broccoli plants in mid March but did not set them out until late March. The plants already had small flower heads on them when I planted them. About 2 weeks after planting the heads flowered. What did I do wrong other than waiting too long to get them in the ground? When do I need to replant for a fall attempt?

Broccoli needs to go in the ground early when it is still very young and then grow rapidly for best results. Your plants were stressed and never recovered.

Select varieties with fast days-to-harvest intervals for best results. In the fall try an early to mid September planting. Next spring plant broccoli in mid to late February and protect from late freezes when the plants are still young.
