I woke up 2 days ago with a few strange circles about 5 feet from my home. The largest ring is approximately 14ft in diameter and as seen in the picture they get smaller and smaller and they are rings inside of other rings. Can someone please explain what this is. I have heard of fairy rings and necrotic rings but I can't seem to find anything that is similar to these. Thank you for your help. This is not a hoax or a joke. I am being extremely serious so I expect you to be the same. Thank you

Does anyone know who I can contact maybe in my area that I can take some samples to have them tested and who maybe able to give me a little more information to what is going on here? Thank you all for your help and cooperation.

I do cut with a zero turn but I have not cut the lawn in at least a week and a half. I was not sure what extension services was but I followed through and found out and I will be giving blackland research or the agricultural department a call thank you.

What is happening to the grass that has turned red.....
-- Is it dying/or dead?
-- Is the coloring like a dust that you can rub off and onto your shoes or hands?
-- is it like the coloring is painted on, and does not come off?
-- Is it on both sides of the grass blades, or just one side? Check at least 5 blades of grass to answer this, please.

There seems to be other places in the pic with the same coloring, but not in circles.....Yes? With the same symptoms?

The grass that you are calling red is dead if you look close there are 3 laterell lines running parallel with my lawn but that has nothing to do with the circles and yes there is other dead grass in the area but nothing seems to be apart of these circles. I will post more pics that I have taken and in an hour or so when the sun comes up I will also post more recent pics. Also I live in the country. So no one but me and my family have been on the property. The grass almost looked burnt to me so I smelled it but it is definitely dead grass and no unusual smells. There is more to the story that I will tell later that I'm not sure has anything to do with what is going on here because it happened in the pasture behind my house. I would like to get thoughts on this part first. To answer the question's the color does not rub off it does not have any dust that comes off and yes both sides of the grass blades are the same color. Dead

That kind of pattern can be done with a lawnmower, see:

https://www.google.ca/search?q...:

It's too symmetrical not to be "man-made" IMHO. Is there any possibility the lawnmower has a fluid leak?

The pattern you have shown in the pic I have already seen and I don't believe it resembles what is happening here. The regular rider he was on is not a zero turn mower and is not leaking at all. If it was a mower there would be tracks leading in and out of where he was and he was also in several other parts of the yard.

There is a brown streak that runs into the circles in the bottom left of the picture, which led me to wonder that. There is no disease that could cause that pattern so it has to be man-made somehow. What caused the brown lines outside the circles, do you know? Has any herbicide been used on the property?

I will look again this morning but I believe the brown streak you are referring to is one of my lateral lines and no I don't use herbicides or pesticides or any other chemicals for any reason on my lawn. I agree the circles are to simetrical to be caused by anything that I am aware of. All I know is I did not do anything to cause this and the only other people that have been on the property are my wife and kids and they did not do anything to cause this either.

Are there brown footprints in the middle of the inner circle?

There seem to be something in the center that almost resembles a y but no footprints. I can't quite figure out exactly what is in the center I have been going over this for days now.

Other than a visitation by aliens, or someone who is into crop circles, or a prank by someone, I can't imagine what could have done it! The only things that come to mind that might be used to do something like that would be herbicide, bug spray (deet-type), fertilizer or a mechanical fluid leak. What caused the brown lines elsewhere on the lawn including the one running into the circles?

Has someone been making donuts with the lawnmower?

Yes my son was in the yard on a regular riding mower doing circles but I do not believe in any way how a riding mower with a 10year old boy on it could do anything close to this.

I think if you open your mind to the possibilities you will find that there are an amazing number of things that a young boy is capable of, with or without your permission or supervision. Maybe have a talk with the young man and see if he and maybe some of his friends know something about this strange pattern in the lawn area. I'm rooting for aliens but I think this is just a normal pattern caused my the mower.
