Northern Florida is the southernmost edge of their growing range. Your climate is just a little too warm for them. If you want to try it for fun, enrich the soil in a shady garden bed with lots of organic matter, and keep it evenly moist throughout the season. If you want to enjoy their fragrance, but don't want to risk planting them outside, you can force them inside as a houseplant. Purchase pre-chilled "pips" (the tiny bulbs) from White Flower Farm, PO Box 50, Litchfield, CT 06759-0050; ph# 800/503-9624. Enjoy! |
