I tried to clip branches from a holly bush and I put them in water, but they appear to have died. Did I do it incorrectly?

Holly can be propagated by cuttings, but the ends of the cut branches should be dusted with rooting hormone and planted in moistened potting soil. Try again, but this time set the cuttings in potting soil rather than a glass of water.
