This is acknowledged to be one of the greatest gardens created in England in the last century. One of the great plantsmen of England is working there, Fergus Garrett, and he has inherited the responsibility for its care from the family member that made the greatest difference to the garden, Christopher Lloyd.

Any of Christopher Lloyd's books is worth reading, and owning. He carried on a long and caring correspondence with his great friend Beth Chatto, who also has a nursery , and a very different style of gardening.

The nursery catalogue is available online, and you can save yourself a great deal of time in finding the better plants by looking in the catalogue. Why grow bad plants when you can grow great ones? If you cannot order them from Great Dixter, you will still know the names of the ones that repay you best for the effort of growing and caring for them.
