I have covered some of the history of garlic, some of the misconceptions related to garlic, and the growing/harvesting/storage of garlic. Let's now look at some of the more readily available varieties so that we understand what characteristics they will have and how they are similar yet different in bulb/clove color, size, flavor, and pungency.

What is the absolute easiest edible plant you can grow? I spent my entire morning contemplating that question, and nothing came to mind that beats garlic. As everyone knows, it's a bulb, planted in the fall, grown through the winter, and harvested in very early summer. Here is a quick and easy method of planting allium (garlic & shallots) in really tight rows (matrix). Using this method I can fast plant 200 allium in a 5x10 foot garden. In addition, later on it's really easy to spot any cloves that did not sprout.
