Since purchasing our new home, I've been into landscaping, gardening, and potting plants. My girlfriend, on the other hand, not so much. We had a few empty spaces in our new home and a idea arose. I asked her: "What if we get a decorative plant shelf to complement these areas?"
She didn't necessarily see the vision at first till we went to a local craft store. While we were at the store, we found an antique-looking stand. We then found random and quirky pots to place on there as well.
After a very long time of looking around for the right pots, we combined our vision. Something creative, simple, and most of all, fun. I had some succulent plants already. We then took a trip to our local Lowe's and purchased some shade and sun annuals. I let her pick what she wanted, within reason. This is a "couples project." Next, I educated her slightly on what would grow under our lighting conditions. That night we stayed up till 1:30AM completing the task at hand.
After that, she was a "little" more interested and actually went back and added another plant stand.
Since then, we've completed a perennial garden and a raised bed for our mailbox, and we've planted azalea bushes next to the house.
The last few months of combining our ideas and working together have been great. Give it a try!!
