Here is what you will need:
The first part of this pedestal will be the same as the original, but you will replace the Els in the top section with 3-ways.
Next you will add 4 equal vertical sections of pipe. The length of the vertical pieces does not matter. It only depends on how you want the pedestal to look. Then make a square out of four 3-ways and four sections of 5 1/4" pipe, and attach to the vertical pieces. There you have your new pedestal.
For the next stand do the same steps as above, but replace the Els on the bottom level instead of on the top. You will now have the rectangular section on the bottom, as in these:
Instead of adding the tall vertical pieces, how about just inserting short 1" pieces of pipe into the 3-ways and adding caps for feet?
Now it's time for you to use your imagination, to build on these basic patterns, and create your own interesting pedestals. Here are a few I have done to give you some inspiration.
