Salvias are also known as Sage. They can be hardy perennials or tender perennials grown as annuals, and they are loved by many. They come in many different colors, such as blue, red, pink, purple, white, and others. Most of them prefer full sun, but some will tolerate anything from full sun to full shade.

Salvias are sometimes grown just for their beauty, sometimes to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, or bees, and sometimes for culinary purposes.
Different varieties bloom in spring, summer, fall, winter, or a combination of seasons, and gardeners in warmer climates are blessed with year-round blooms.

Autumn Sage is a great salvia to grow in a container as a patio plant or in the ground, where it is happy as long as it has well-draining soil. It is usually shrubby, is native to Texas and Mexico, and is also known as Salvia greggii. This group includes many colorful varieties and hybrids. The plants grow well both in the arid desert and in humid summer areas. They are easy to grow, are drought tolerant, and are long blooming, usually from spring to frost.
Native to Texas and Mexico, Salvia farinacea is long blooming and attracts butterflies.
Mexican Bush Sage, or Salvia leucantha, blooms in all its glory in late summer to fall. Just as the hummingbirds are migrating south, they can drink up the nectar. It has velvety flowers, white stems, and gray-green leaves, and it is drought tolerant and shrubby.
Some salvias have variegated leaves. One example is Salvia 'Dancing Flames,' which also has beautiful red flowers and is a stunning plant.
Salvia elegans 'Golden Delicious,' with its yellow leaves and bright red flowers, is a beautiful and desirable plant.
Most, if not all, salvias are deer resistant and/or rabbit resistant.
