Keep the suet away from squirrels and raccoons by using a shepherd hook to hang the suet cage.

Shepherd hooks are easy to find at most big-box stores and nurseries. They come in many different styles, either plain or more ornate, but they all have that nice hook area to hang items, such as hanging pots and suet feeders.

Position your shepherd hook away from tree branches and fences so that the pests can't jump down from above.

I find that my local squirrels can't climb up the small slippery pole, so my suet is safe.
