Sink a stock tank in the ground and cover the edges with large flat rocks for a natural look.

I wanted an in-ground pond surrounded by rocks for a more natural look, but I needed a much easier project than trying to lay a liner to make myself a pond. I solved my problem by buying an oval stock tank. These are really sturdy and strong as they are made for watering cattle and horses in pastures.

There are metal galvanized stock tanks available, but for a more natural look I decided on a black poly plastic type. Mine is 350 gallons, but they do come in various sizes.

Construction of the pond was fairly easy. Most difficult was digging a large enough hole, plus making sure the tank was placed level when in the ground. Once that was done, I had a pallet of mostly flat rocks delivered. By playing around with the placement of the rocks around the rim, I was able to get a natural looking stone grotto effect. Just what I was looking for.
