Try these remarkably carefree and productive grape-shaped tomatoes for salads or for eating fresh.

One year I stumbled upon Juliet plants by accident at my local nursery. I had never grown grape tomatoes or heard of Juliet tomatoes before. That soon changed as I grow them every year now and plan to always continue to do so.

The fruit of Juliet is shaped like a grape, but the fruits are considerably larger. They remind me of small Roma tomatoes. In fact, you can usually buy Juliet tomatoes prepackaged at your local supermarket, where they are marketed as Roma Grape.

Juliet plants stay very healthy and disease free, resistant to both early and late blights. The indeterminate plants grow large, so give them lots of room. Plants start to flower and set fruit early (60 days) and keep on producing up till frost. 1 ½ to 2 inch long red fruit is born in large clusters. Juliet is very resistant to cracking and holds well on the vine.

Juliet fruit is just right for an eating-size snack, for sticking onto skewers for grilling, or for a salad tomato. They hold for weeks at room temperature on the counter and, in fact, taste best when allowed to fully ripen this way.
