I had cutworms killing my tomato plants. To stop it, I did this...

They were relentless. Every morning I would lose a plant. I had stinging nettles on the parking pad out back and I knew they had mostly hollow stems from trying to eradicate them earlier, so I put two and two together. I cut down a large plant and stripped the stalk of leaves, being careful to not damage the stinging hairs on the stem. I split the stem with a razor and cut it into finger-long pieces. I then pried them open and put them around my tomato plant stems. I didn't lose any more plants. I now have more respect for my weeds.
