Evergreen trees are good for protecting bird feeders from predators and wind. After the holidays, recycle your old Christmas tree to help the birds.

To make a permanent holder for a tree, dig a hole with a post hole digger and place a large section of plastic pipe in the hole. Cut the lower branches off the tree and slip it into the pipe. You will have a permanent place in the yard to recycle old Christmas trees into a spot for hanging bird feeders that are protected from winter weather and predators.
