It is seed-starting time for some of us, which presented me with a dilemma. I had my seeds and my beautiful seed- starting compressed bale medium, but no scoop!

A couple of years ago, Dave and Trish did a podcast that mentioned Sunshine Mix for starting seedlings. That has been such a wonderful find for me. I went to my nearest garden shop, which happened to be the feed and farm store, to get some of this awesome mix. I had been making my own prior to this. I am always looking for better and more convenient, so off I went.

I brought my beautiful compressed Sunshine Mix home and opened it up, but I had a dickens of a time digging into the mix and scooping it out. So, wanting to save myself a trip back to town and get right to planting brought me to my recycle, reuse idea.

I went into the laundry room and got an empty laundry soap jug.

I washed it out well, and carefully cut it into the shape of a scoop.

And now I can get right into scooping and planting.

And here are just a few of the hundreds of seedlings I have started. Thank you, Dave and Trish, for the great tip on Sunshine Mix. I love it.
