Trish said:Being from the South, it's almost obvious which team I bat for - Team Barefoot! Growing up, I practically had to be forced into wearing shoes. Spring calls to my feet with its early morning dew and cool damp earth. Summer brings warm (or hot!) sand in between my toes, and the blissful freedom of peeling off scratchy socks. Fall brings the cooler feet and the crunch of leaves - all best experienced barefoot! I admit to wearing socks in the winter to keep the toes warm, but they practically sing when it is again warm enough to emerge! I do wear shoes around the farm much more than I did in my younger years. Although I've been known to be seen doing heavy chores shoe-less, I concede that shoes have their place. My feet are happiest free and unhindered, though!
Dave said:I don't leave my bedroom without socks on, and in my life I have never stepped outside without shoes on. If your feet are happy, you're happy, and you can't be happy if your bare feet are stepping on gravel, thorns, thistles, bullnettle, hot sand, bugs, crispy dry grass and so forth. Shoes all the way for me!
The other members of our household are just as divided on this issue as Dave and I are. About half feel strongly that shoes are a most needed accessory, and the other half grudgingly put them on only when necessary. It seems this is pretty normal for the subject at hand. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of fence riders here- people generally seem to bat for either one team or the other.
