While most or maybe all of us use both seeds and plants, I'm fairly confident that most gardeners have a preference between the two. Come explore both sides with us!
First up- Team Seeds:
All hope rests wrapped up in that tiny seed. The promise of what is to come. Whether winter sowing, starting indoors, or letting the plant throw it's own seeds around, Team Seeds enjoys growing a lot from a little. For some it may be the satisfaction of "helping things grow". For others, it is the thrill. Still others just can't argue with the cost.
Let's move along to Team Plants:
This team would rather just deal with the plant. Big or small doesn't really matter, but this team is going to start with something they can see. The rewards come quicker, and the trouble is less.
I'm on Team Plant. While I greatly enjoy growing from seed (and do many every year), my preference is for plants. Time and energy savers play a greater factor into my gardening these days. I still look for trading and co-op opportunities to keep my plant habit budget under control, but I need to baby my plants less so that I have more time to enjoy other aspects of gardening. |

I get a huge sense of satisfaction from taking seeds and bringing them to germination and then seeing them go through the various stages as I pot them up into ever increasing container sizes. I love seeing a crepe myrtle in bloom that I started from a seed. Seeds are so convenient for trading through the mail and most seeds will store for quite a while, so they sit waiting for you to get to them on your own timetable. I love seeds and that's my team! :) |
Over to you: Are you on Team Plant or Team Seed?
