Some gardeners regularly spray chemical fertilizers inside and outside on schedule to help their plants grow.
Some gardeners carefully build their soil organically and nary a drop of man-made chemical ever touches their land.
Some gardeners use a combination, and the combinations are endless.
Trish said:For my vegetables, I prefer no man made fertilizers at all. I like my vegetables to be heirloom and chemical free. I spend a great deal of time building my soil and trying to provide perfect growing conditions for the plants. However, the land doesn't always agree with that strategy, so some all purpose 13/13/13 is occasionally applied, especially to new areas that haven't had the benefit of soil building. The flowers are in a different category to me. I have no qualms about fertilizing them. However, I'm a pretty busy (or lazy, ahem) gardener, so fertilizer is sporadic at best and plumb forgotten at worst, so I build that soil as well because otherwise my poor plants would never get good nutrition!
Dave said:Talk about being put on the spot! I'm embarrassed to say that I am the one who applies the fertilizer when needed, but that is thankfully VERY rare. My desire is to be a card-carrying member of "Team No Fertilizer" and rely solely on compost, but we're just not there yet. It is my goal, though!
Ok- over to you. Tell us all about your Team and how, what, where, and how you fertilize your gardens!
