Gardeners have to have plants. It might even seem like the more we have, the more we want to have! The only question is: where do we primarily shop: online or locally?

For the serious hobbiest, and the serious collector alike, we all have one thing in common- we like to shop for plants! Today we're going to explore where we go for our plant shopping.

There's little better to a gardener than parking at our favorite home-base nursery. The smell of what's blooming, the assault of color, the buzz of fellow gardeners- it's all part of the experience. An experience that we'll repeat many times during the growing season. We might wake bright and early to go on a nursery hunt one crisp spring morning, or jump in the car at a moment's notice after hearing of a sale at one of our favorite plant haunts. The mad dash, or the leisurely jaunt to find the newest merchandise- the brick and mortar store is the preferred place to shop for those who bat for Team Local.

On the other side is Team Online. By neccessity or preference, those who bat for Team Online enjoy a plethora of options by shopping online. One can fine just about any plant or seed: any color or variety if one is willing to take a bit of time searching. Waiting for sales, shopping the co-ops, and/or obtaining the rare specimen all from the comfort of one's home. What an era we live in!

Trish said:While my preference is to be on Team Local, location and circumstance allow for Team Online. I do miss the experience of local nursery shopping, but I sure can't beat the convenience of Team Online!

Dave said:Although I love to be able to go into a local store and see the plants, pick out the best ones and immediately bring it home to enjoy it right away, there just isn't much variety locally. The big box stores absolutely bore me to tears, and the local nurseries often don't have new and interesting varieties. So, online I go. I love buying from co-ops, and several times a year I will buy directly from an online vendor. I also love trading plants and seeds.  Team "Online" for me, all the way!

Ok- your turn. For the purpose of this article, whichever you do the most shopping with is the team you bat for. No batting for both teams this week!
