Fruit is one thing that's hard to come by in winter, at least if you don't have space for large trees that allow you to put away long-storing fruits such as apples and pears.

Give hardy kiwis a try. They are fast-growing vines that fruit after about three years and form an attractive screen in the meantime, but best of all, you can eat them for most of the winter. They’re harvested in fall and can keep for several months if maintained at refrigerator temperatures. Just bring them to room temperature for a few days to ripen as needed.
