Bungee Cords for Non-Jumping Containers

The stump (once an ornamental pear) in the center of my front landscape bed makes an ideal perch for a pretty pot of flowers -- or so I thought. When I couldn't get a container to stay put up there, even with a weighted base, I knew I had to come up with a way to attach a container to the stump.

All-purpose bungee cords to the rescue! I installed a couple of cup hooks into the stump by drilling pilot holes and then screwing them in by hand. One of the bungee cords was hooked to the rim of the container, while the one on the opposite side was hooked to the lip of its reservoir bottom.

I think the elasticity of the cords makes for less stress where they hook onto the pot. The pot shifts around a little but doesn't slip off. So far, so good!

Edited to add: We just had a severe thunderstorm system blow through with huge wind gusts -- and the pot is still on its perch! This would work to hold plastic containers on my deck railing, too. I think I need to buy more bungee cords...

Edited again 10/6 (the day before publication): The container stayed put just fine all summer long, through gusty storms and torrential rains. I'm convinced!
