Last night was cold, and today it is still cold and also windy. I have a bunch of my orchids inside the house to protect them, but when the heat turns on, it sure is dry as a desert in here! So, I am soaking and wringing out old towels and hanging them over my metal frame chairs so they drip onto the tile and humidify the air. I run a little water into the bathtub, and spray everyone before I go to bed with the little pump sprayer, and of course this keeps us breathing better all night, as well. Humidity is good for us, as well as our plants!
On cold mornings I save up the dishes, and run the dishwasher first thing, and then open the door as it's finishing, to let all that nice humid heat into the kitchen. I also save up ingredients and make homemade soup on cold dry days. Steamy and yummy, and very healthy, too.
All this works well, but today a lightbulb lit above my head as I was moving the laundry from the washer to the dryer. Why send all that valuable moisture out the dryer vent? I tumbled the stuff for maybe 10 minutes to fluff, and now a load or two of jeans and t-shirts are hanging around the house - on hangers, in doorways, from doorknobs and curtain rods, lending their decorative value and helping humidify the house as they dry.
If it's too dry in your house, let your laundry dry naturally. It will save you a little bit on your electricity bill, and amazingly, my t-shirts are nice and smooth, another bonus. Hmm, maybe I'll wash all the towels tomorrow.
