"Jumping Worms"

I initially thought my brother, Mike, was joking when he started telling me about "jumping worms," but I was wrong. Mike is extremely into plants and belongs to four garden societies in the Madison, WI area. Although he is retired, he professionally visited numerous growers in the US and did the production schedule for $6,000,000 to $7,000,000 each year for a large grower. Apparently their area has a new infestation of 4-inch "flying worms," which are extremely invasive and very quickly multiply. They devour nutrients in the soil, which ultimately looks like saw dust and can no longer support plant life. A large tree recently fell over when the "dirt" could no longer anchor the roots. Mike said the local plant societies no longer host plant sales because so much soil has been infected. There currently isn't a way to control or eradicate them. I don't know the extent of the "infected" zone.
