How many of us bought those cheap Chinese made sola lights with the crackle glass orbs? Quite a few I think! They were so badly designed that the first shower rain allowed water to run all over the on/off switch and battery housing, causing inevitable corrosion! I ended up with some quite nice crackled glass orbs and the rest in the the local tip! So they sat there in bag in the shed for a while! A few months later I had installed a small pond( at the wife's request!) and this idea hit me! I bought a pack of those green plastic coated plant support rods, the ones with the bent over loop at top! ( I used the 6mm diameter ones!) five were set in a length of tube with the help of cable ties to keep them bunched ( find a size they will fit in snuggly or wedge them in with a packer of some description, I used some plastic wall screw plugs!) bend the supports in an arc with the loop facing up and spread them out with a little coaxing! pop the glass orbs on the end! I was a bit dubious about wind movement , but they have proved very stable, and just nod in the strongest wind! From a distance the rods almost disappear! This actual description is for the larger size orbs but will work on the small ones with thinner rods! Hope this gives you an idea for these orbs! If you haven't throw them away already!
