MOUNTAIN LAKES, N.J. (October 3rd, 2011) _ Farmers Garden by Vlasic® pickles, a Pinnacle Foods Group LLC brand, is partnering with the National Gardening Association (NGA) for its 2011 Farm to School Project, a grant program created to bring green to schoolyards in urban areas.
Thirty-five schools around the United States that participated in the school garden registry received a Farmers Garden by Vlasic® Farm to School Project Kit valued at $1,100 that equips them with all the resources and tools students need to plant and cultivate their new school garden for years to come, including: tiered light garden for starting seeds, seed starting kit, plant beds, tool kits, composter, kids gloves, nutrition books, and more. Winners will be officially announced November 1st, 2011.
Children at the awarded schools will have the opportunity to harvest and maintain a fresh fruit and vegetable garden, and learn the importance of produce through hands-on experience at their very own edible classroom. The Farm to School Project also helps engage childrens imaginations, spark their creative forces, and teach them how to keep a healthy and balanced diet.
The partnership with NGA, a nonprofit leader in plant-based education for more than 35 years, underscores Farmers Garden by Vlasics commitment to honest ingredients, and support of the farm to table lifestyle.
The National Gardening promotes home, school and community gardening as a means to renew and sustain the essential connections between people, plants and the environment. To learn more about the NGAs school gardening initiatives, visit www.kidsgardening.org.
