There is also a particularly lovely Stipa called Stipa gigantea which would also be wonderful to include , seeds planted in the same manner though if you can find the seed plant then in April/May. It can reach 6', forms a tight clump 1'to 2' high with awns that rise on lyre-like strings up to 6' tall. The flower is wonderful and changes dramatically after the seeds are set, turning the most splendid gold after the seeds have ripened and dropped: worth looking for. I call this plant a visible invisibility that baffles the eye while satisfying it at the same time.
