I use these in place of boxwoods. They're easier and don't need to be hedged as frequently. BUT the green isn't as bright and cheerful as the boxwoods. The llex crenata holly is a dark pine evergreen green. You really can't get that bright cheerful spring green in many shrubs like you can with the boxwood
