Velvetleaf, (Abutilon theophrasti), is an annual hairy plant of the mallow family (Malvaceae) native to southern Asia. The plant is cultivated in northern China for its fiber and is widely naturalized in warmer regions of North America, where it is often a serious agricultural weed. It grows 0.6–2.4 meters (2–8 feet) tall and has heart-shaped downy leaves. It bears five-petaled yellow flowers and beaked seedpods.
