Grew this from a cutting. Very easy to grow from cuttings. It is a very thorny and tangled rose, and needs aggressive annual trimming. Mine formed a horizontal platform for roof rats the year I missed! It was a very large, mature bush supported by other sturdy shrubs. | |

I have trained my Sombreuil into a tree rose on our front fence. It blooms spring to fall. I trim it back severely in the winter. I found a bird nest this year. It is a show stopper and people passing our house will comment on it. It needs the "trunk" trimmed from shoots and the top is old and heavy enough that we will have to support it on the fence this year. |
