Bonehead's Plant List

A note from Bonehead
I am located in north Snohomish County, Washington, Zone 8b, a temperate rain foresty region. I rarely get snow, extreme cold, or extreme heat. Global warming, however, is changing the last one and we now get summer temps that are uncomfortably hot for me (anything over 30 C). I use this feature as a mini-database of my plants - both those within my tended beds/yard and those in my wild areas. The dates for plant events (budding, flowering, etc.) are ranges, not necessarily inclusive on both ends.

1990 side forest. Initially planted for Xmas trees, let them go and they have now evolved into an effective visual screen between us and Vanessa. 2015 trimmed the dead lower branches which opened it up, and plan to also cut out the dead trees. 2016 native ferns, salmonberry, snowberry, elderberry, and vine maples are noticeably colonizing. 2017, 5 pots planted along front creek by SCCD, blackberries overgrew these.

Originally in the hosta bed, where it never bloomed, then moved to porch bed where it also never bloomed. 2014 moved to front bed, still no bloom. 2020 still in all 3 spots (roots must have regrown when I moved it). I've never seen a bloom, but it gets nice foliage in late summer/fall. Give this a slug ring. Compressed leaves will bring down swellings. Roots ooze a slime useful in a compress for burns, dislocation, and gout. Watch for slugs.

2017 Side forest by dog trail. Looking tough 2018, with two main branches pretty dead, but the main leader is leafing out. I'll just leave it alone and try to get water to it and see if it recovers. Charlie
