sr - 2023 In flower from Apr to May, and the seeds ripen from Sep to Oct. The flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant)The plant is not self-fertile. Akebia prefers sandy soils with good drainage, and regular watering, though it is drought-resistant. Germination: Lightly scarify seeds with a nail file, and soak in warm water for 24 hours. Surface sow seeds in a pot, mist the soil and sprinkle a small amount of sand or seed-starting soil over the seeds. soak seed for 24hrs then place in moist peat or sand, in a polythene bag, not sealed, in the fridge for about 6 weeks. Sow in pots, but don't cover the seed, since they need light to germinate. Keep warm. Ideal Sowing Period: Spring, if using a fridge, late autumn if using natural stratification. Zones 4 through 9. |

Native to Europe, western and central Asia, north-western Africa, Morocco, Iberia, and the British Isles, north to northern Scandinavia,[2] and east to northern Pakistan and Xinjiang in western China. Garlic mustard greens are high in Vitamin A and Vitamin C as well as trace minerals, chlorophyll, and enzymes. The roots taste like horseradish and can be pickled or used in soups as a root vegetable. The seeds when ground makes a fabulous mustard sauce and the dried greens can be made into a paste like wasabi. Young first-year garlic mustard plants contain up to 100ppm cyanide, a level that is toxic to many vertebrates. Once the plant is chopped up the cyanide gas is eliminated. Hardiness zone. 4a - 8b. |

twf - 2022 a.k.a. Ramps. A perennial wild onion is native to much of North America. Plants bear small, scallion-like bulbs with a unique, strong garlic and onion flavor. The bulbs are seeing increasing use in gourmet restaurants and are popular in certain local cuisine, both in the southern U.S., as well as Quebec. A short plant, growing to just 12-18". Freeze hardy. Ramp plants grow best in USDA Hardiness Zones 3 through 7 and will grow in the same cool and damp conditions as wildflowers such as trout lilies, trillium, or ginseng. It is best to plant them after the early springtime or during late summer or early fall. Zones 3 - 7. |
