Bought 100 of these at Costco and am putting them in water with a bubbler to increase in size before planting. Note limited Zone range, however they can be grown in pots and then put in a greenhouse to overwinter in Michigan, to offer zone 7 protection. February 27, 2024: Obtained plant (Purchased at Costco, 100 corms on Tuesday. On Thursday, soaking overnight with a bubbler to plant the next day in pots and grow on for spring.)
March 2, 2024: Seeds sown (Put in the bubbler the night before. Planting out in 3 gallon pots.)

I've had this plant several years now. It's growing beautifully, slow pace but steadily getting bigger and bigger each season, wintered indoors, then in dappled shade outdoors during late spring through early fall.

Lisianthus (Eustoma) and Roses
Three inch ivory flowers edged in pink Lisianthus, aka Prairie Gentian. Fully double. Cut flowers last two weeks or longer. Plants grow 2-3 ft. tall, are early blooming - flower midsummer to frost. Glad to post that I had good success growing this lovely Lisianthus using a combo Winter Sowing and greenhouse technique in 2022. I had lovely blooms August - November in 6a SE Michigan. Check out my Winter Sowing blog post if you want to give it a try. Details: WS in Dec-January. Put into the greenhouse on heat mats in March. Place outside in May to grow into full size plants. February 4, 2022: Seeds sown (WS in three red Solo cups in 2nd tote. Will use blended technique to grow in late March, April.)
September 3, 2022: Bloomed (Woo-hoo, bloomed, grown from winter sown seed! )

This may also be a newer succulent introduction: Gasteria brevifolia
Protect from frost.

Notes from research: Gasteria brevifolia: Thick leaves are are tongue-like. They grow distichously (aligned like a fan). As they grow, they will spiral to a loose rosette form. Flowers are sent up on long stalks and are coral and tubular.

Gasteria are good with low light and minimal water and do well indoors, still maintaining form and color. They grow deep roots, so use a deep pot. The will easily rot, so avoid standing water. Use a gritty, well-draining soil. Water only when soil is fully dry.

September 25, 2021: Obtained plant (Bought a tray of different succulents, this one was the only one labeled. Franks in Maryland. New to me, Fall of 2021.)
September 28, 2022: Maintenance performed (Move for the winter into the new greenhouse. Did well during the summer with partial sun. Too much sun affects color (turns grey). Moving into partial light greens up the plant.)
February 2, 2023: Bloomed (Multiple plants overwintering indoors under lights. Several bloom stalks coming up. )

Tender lavender. January 2023. Is alive in greenhouse. Will cut back in spring and see if it regrows in early spring and when planted out. February 3, 2023: Cuttings stuck (Overwintering this plant, and though it is dying back a bit in the new, small greenhouse, I managed to find several fresh cuttings today, still alive. Clipped them and will see if I can get them growing indoors.)

AKA Dipladenia.

January 2023. Is doing very well indoors. Has retained all of its leaves. Daily misting helps. Is prone to red aphids. I have to watch for these like a hawk.

NOTE: Sap is toxic and can irritate the skin. Wear plastic or rubber gloves when pruning and clean pruning shears before and after. Inspect for pests.

Is under bright indoor grow lights. As directed, I am not fertilizing in winter.

I am misting daily to maintain humidity. and it is working great

Bugs: APHIDS! Also am watching for mealybugs (Pseudococcidae), spider mites (Tetranychidae) and scale insects (Coccoidea) indoors. Will put back in greenhouse in April, then outdoors in May after the 20th when temperatures are consistently above 50°F.

Tip: Dipladenia may lose its leaves over the winter. In spring, they should grow back. So far, the plant is lush and green January 2023.

April 2023. I won the aphid war and they stopped infesting the plant by early April. Now the plant is in the greenhouse, mainly because there's white little critters somehow crawling around in the dirt in the plant's drip plate underneath. Out it goes, and it now has flower buds as of April 23, 2023.
June 10, 2022: Obtained plant (Obtained locally. Grew well over the summer in a partial sun spot on the south facing fence shaded by a small amelanchier tree.)
September 28, 2022: Maintenance performed (Moved into greenhouse. Forecast 38 degrees at night.)
October 15, 2022: Winterized (Brought indoors after soaking soil and treating with Neem. Regardless of preventative measures, still prone to red aphids indoors. Using an organic insecticidal spray (Castile soap, a tad of vinegar, minced garlic) and will report back. Neem and DEarth did nothing to stop the infestation.)
April 21, 2023: Maintenance performed (Moved to the greenhouse, especially after finding little white creepy crawlies in the dirt under the drip saucer indoors (I've fought off the adult aphids but still!) )
