NOTE this is sown in several different ways for 2023. Plants are reliable and vigorous in second year of production with good 24–36" height. They bloom mid to late summer. To produce rebloom, cut back within 2-3 inches of ground, after first flowers. Perennial in Zones 3–9. Endures heat and low-water once established. Light is required for germination. Obtained seed from seed swap. It's an eggplant! Pumpkin on a Stick needs Note that the fruits first turn green then scarlet. After they dry, they turn pumpkin-orange on thick branches that have large purple thorns. It's also called Hmong Eggplant, Red China Eggplant, or Scarlet Chinese Eggplant. Terrific for fall arrangements. The plant grows 3 to 4 feet high and 2 to 3 feet wide, has large foliage that protects the 2- to 5-inch fruits from sunscald. Cold weather helps the color change from scarlet to orange, usually within a couple weeks. |
