Earl Porter darkest seedling crossed with EITPF.
This one is a HUGE flower, tall very thick scape.
But solidly colored. Has a BLACK EDGE!

Placed in front of peony, beside tree lilies.

Variegated (or interesting) foliage
Seedlings: Current
C2XC1211 x Secured Borders. White seedling with green stripes. The only one like this is HPSXSB231 and HPS is a kid of C2XC1212 (a sibling of C2XC1211). Started going green after a month.

Hypothesis: broken color blooms create higher chances of seeing variegated leaves.
This is not the only example I saw this year.

Seedlings: Current
Large and intense pink bloom. Not so stripey though.
On second look, the blooms really are broken colored!

In new bed right behind Pitter Patter, and Freaking Awesome.

Made interesting seedlings with Secured Borders. 1:15 chance (2 in 30) of seeing something with interesting leaves (ignoring albinos - those were 4 in 30).

(IHRXBF205)X(PPXPS213)221. Nickname: "Spots"
Icon for preview
Have
Seedlings: Current
Had a planter of 6 of these seedlings.
Only this one had bloomed in 2023, indoors in November.
Potential for spots, so I planted the rest in the back of the new beds.
One parent has died so this cross is impossible to repeat.

Note: 5 Unbloomed siblings all have plant labels that say only "Spots".
Spring 2024: Did not emerge from the ground.

Is variegated.
In "striped patch" where Sir Francis Drake used to be.

Broken colored. Not so pretty, though, so far. Taller than the first one.
In "striped patch" where Sir Francis Drake used to be.
Assess in 2024.

Have
Seedlings: Current
(Tet Pink Stripes x Tet Yankee Pinstripes) x Starman. Also called RHS (Rich Howard Seedling) for short. Unbloomed seedling from Rich Howard Spring 2023. I have rights to register if pretty. Photos of parents included since one is also an unregistered seedling. Risky purchase as both patterns are inverse so may cancel each other out. Scape noticed 13th July 2023. Removed wire protection as was poking through a small hole. Thicker scapes give stronger features (e.g. yellow teeth on edges).
Made initial pods with EITPF and TPS. EITPF one has since browned and shriveled away. TPS remains so far.

In back of new bed that has Pitter Patter, Freaking Awesome etc.

Seedlings: Current
Nocturnal (both parents diurnal).
Along Came Amanda x Gaudy Grasshopper.
Pollen very fertile.
Update Spring 2022: Increase to 2 medium fans.
Update Summer 2022: Had 1 scape like last year. Then 2 other scapes started at different later times (other fans)! Makes quite a few poly blooms, also.
Update Spring 2023: Increase to 8 fans. FFO 4th July 2023.

Along Came Amanda x Gaudy Grasshopper. Fall 2020 seeds from LA.
48" scape. multiple side-branches. Not as pretty as ACAXGG201. But OK. 6" flower does not recurve (which I enjoy).
Fall 2022: moved to back corner.
Spring 2023: 10 fans. 5 scapes. FFO Jul 10th 2023.
Set pods with Purple Leopard and Stargate Angel Wings. Set initial pod with O1708 but aborted this one.

Along Came Amanda x Gaudy Grasshopper. Fall 2020 germinated.
3.5" flower. Died back before the season ended. Unsure if still alive or not (I have selfed seeds in the fridge as backup). Note: at very end of Fall 2022 I did see new leaves begin to poke out again.
Spring 2023: 1 fan
Moved to opposite side of garden, between Ahoya and A0XC1211, to give it more light as Earl Porter leaves got HUGE as did the fans shading this little fan totally out.
FFO Sep 19th poly.
Spring 2024: 1 fan in April.

Bonus seeds. 2021 germinated.
A012-2 (Fried Green Tomatoes x Dragonfly in Flight) x C-137-1 (Emerald Starburst x Pink Stripes). Has stipples and some stripes. Cool. Note, the ones that have smaller yellow throats and are less recurved are morning photos. Same flowers again with bigger throats and more recurve are evening shots.
Moved to new white-fence bed at the very front.
Spring 2023: 3 fans. 4th fan later appeared and was VARIEGATED (or chlorosis)!
FFO: 3rd Aug 2023
A diploid phenocopy of What's Another Cat (Donato, 2019) tet daylily.

Ahoya x Darker Than Sin, the only seedling grown. Dark scape and an Ahoya bloom make this a great seedling. Germinated seedling from 11th Feb 2023.

Try crossing with Secured Borders to obtain a variegated daylily with a dark scape.

In front bed, in spot where Amethyst Prism used to be.
Spring 2024: 1 very small fan emerged.

Fall 2021 seeds. C290-1 (Carolina Scorcher x Dream State) x C137-1 (Emerald Starburst x Pink Stripes). Blooms at 6mth. Reverse bitone with applique eye blending into throat. Evening opener (begins around 6pm). Stable canoeing on petals and sepals which all stand out straight.

Looked sick after the second bloom so I cut off the scape. However, it looks to be dead. Pity. Scape bloomed indoors and I kept that pollen ) as well as from prior first outdoor bloom).

Amazingly, since feigning death (everything brown and shriveled) it has begun to regrow leaves! Impressive.
Planted Fall 2022 in same bed as variegated phlox.

Spring 2023: 1 fan. But it is HUGE. Scape thickness is also good. A keeper if it keeps looking nice. FFO 7th July 2023.
Colors are nicer in cooler weather. Tall scape.
Set pods with Purple Leopard, Stargate Angel Wings, and Freaking Awesome.

Created a very interesting seedling (white leaves with green stripes) with Secured Borders pollen!
Spring 2024: Finally popped out the ground around April 17th. Very late emergence.

C290-1 (Carolina Scorcher x Dream State) x C137-1 (Emerald Starburst x Pink Stripes). Last one to flower. Tallest by far. Big flat flower. Very nice looking. No stripes.
Moved to new white-fence bed. >>NOTE: Looks quite similar to grandparent Carolina Scorcher.<<
Spring 2023: 1 fan. Very noticeably light green bracts, relative to other plants. FFO: Aug 17th.

Spring 2023: 2 fans. FFO: Aug 19th
Spring 2024: 2 fans.

Cliffjumper x Starburst Galaxy. Red leaved seedling.
2021 germinated seed.
2023 April 2nd - 5 fans are out, but cannot detect any red on them yet.
April 17th - Fan base is a reddening up now noticeably.
Potential garden name: "Rhubarbarella"
FFO Jul 3rd 2023.
April 1st 2024: Big fans are out, but not red yet.

Cameroons Twister x Michael Bennet. Fall 2021 seeds.
Nice size flower. The first few came out splotchy, rest were fine. Lots of great buds (>20) and branching and new scapes (instant rebloom?). 7" blooms.
Spring 2023: 4 fans. FFO Jul 10th 2023. But looks small and weird. Only 1 small scape with few buds.
