I would like to put a house plant in a corner of my house that is next to 2 forced air heat ducts. I would like a large plant or a tree. Could you suggest any that like heat. It isn't in direct sun, but it is a bright room. I also need one that is NOT poisonous, as I have a small child and two cats. |
Unfortunately the hot drafts from heating ducts are generally very hard on plants because in addition to beingquite warm they are also very drying. The most common tree, the weeping fig, would definitely not tolerate that location. In my experience some potentially tree-sized plants that are commonly available and might possibly tolerate that spot would be the dracaenas. Although they are not listed as specifically poisonous, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to eat them; children and pets occasionally find the potting soil of interest also. If you think there is a chance of that happening, you might consider using a hanging plant such as pothos instead. |
