What's a good method of getting rid of bugs on cut flowers before bringing them into the house? I've tried cutting them the night before and leaving them in the garage but this doesn't work and I have less time to enjoy them in the house when I use this method. Do you have any tricks that you've found to work? I live near the water so I have a lot of spiders as well as other types of insects.

You might try swishing the cut flowers gently under water to rinse them off, or perhaps a quick spray with the hose to knock them off before cutting. Somehow the insects are always a special part of authentic home grown flowers -- you'd never find them on flowers processed for the florist!
