There is an area in our backyard that we want to plant some shrubs, preferably perennial and flowering. Can you please tell us what is suitable for Houston Texas where we have clay soil? I have areas of full and partial sun in the east and full and partial sun in the west. Also, please tell us how large they will grow. |
Flowering shrubs for full sun that do well in your area include spirea, glossy abelia, flowering quince, perennial types of hibiscus (such as Lord Baltimore and Texas Star), 'Nearly Wild' rose, and Buddlea davidii. For partial shade you might want to try azaleas (they'll need a soil built up with lots of compost), the Sasanqua types of camelias, hydrangeas, English dogwood, Silver bells, and Virginia Sweetspire. Good luck with the new landscape! |
