Late winter is the best time to prune blueberries. Prune away dead, broken and diseased branches. Remove canes that are becoming older and non-productive by cutting them off at ground level. This is generally when they are over 5 years old. An annual cycle of pruning such as this removes 1/5 of the canes each year, thus rejuvenating the bush.
