The Q&A Archives: Tulip Survival After Winter Flooding

Question: This fall I had planted many tulip bulbs (200) on a sloped area. This winter our sloped area was flooded over many times. What will happen to my bulbs? Vicki Cottam Janesville, WI

Answer: Hopefully, if the soil is well drained, when the ground thaws your tulips will survive. They generally don't like growing in flooded areas, but if it happened when the soil and bulbs were frozen, I think they'd survive better than if it happened in spring. You'll find out in about one month how they're doing!
