I have received my Mother's staghorn plant and it has grown considerably. What is the best way to feed this plant to keep it healthy? I have been giving it bananas (yes) because someone said they give it a lot of nutrition. Do you have any suggestions?

If the Staghorn is growing well, you must be doing everything right. Staghorn ferns (Platycerium bifurcatum) can grow sterile fronds that are three feet long and up to a foot across. The fertile fronds are even larger. The fronds accumulate organic matter which feeds the plant. By giving your plant banana, you're providing the organic matter it needs to thrive. Most Staghorns are grown on slabs of bark or in hanging baskets. They like their soil on the dry side and appreciate bright light indoors or afternoon shade outdoors. They are tender plants and should be kept outdoors only during the summer months. Continued good health to your Staghorn!
